Hair Donation for Cancer Survivors

Djakarta. Cancer foundation Yayasan Kanker Indonesia, YKI, donated wigs to iii cancer survivors at Sasana Marsudi Husada, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The donation was part of the "Hair to Share" plan. YKI launched this program to foster self-confidence among cancer survivors in need of emotional support due to hair loss. The hair donors even wrote touching dear letters for the cancer survivors to lift their spirits up.

The "Hair to Share" program returned later on a pandemic-related halt.

Since launched iv years ago, thousands of donors from across the archipelago accept chopped their locks for wigs.

YKI Lebak Bulus chairwoman Rebecca Angka said her "Hair to Share" programme had to shut earlier after receiving tons of hair donations. "We will collect the donated hair and ship them to the wig makers. We have collected a lot so we volition close the programme for a while," Rebecca said.

YKI volition give the wigs to patients who are suffering from pilus loss due to cancer treatment.

"Patients can try the wigs straight at the clinic or we can send them correct to their doorsteps," she said.

The "Hair to Share" program also serves as an opportunity for YKI to spread cancer sensation to the younger generations.

Twenty-iv-year onetime Farah hopes to assist others in this programme. "I want to donate my hair considering it tin can aid someone who demand rather than waste matter it and throw it away," Farah said.

Whilst Ayu —a 22-year-one-time hair donor— revealed she purposely grew her hair when working from home later on finding out about the "Pilus to Share" on YKI's Instagram account.

"I am willing to grow my hair out to help others. I also invited my friends to participate by growing their hair out which would later be donated to the cancer survivors."
